Cooktops aren’t as simple as you may think. There are many aspects to consider when choosing one. When planning your new kitchen, or just considering a cooktop upgrade, it’s good to know about your needs and the sort of cooktop that may suit you.
The main varieties of cooktops are:
Gas cooktops are cheaper to run and more environmentally friendly. It is very quick to adjust heat on gas cooktops, and they also reach higher temperatures. However, it can be difficult to maintain a low heat on gas cooktops and the trivets can also be more fiddly to clean.
Electric cooktops, electric power provides heat to elements below a glass surface. They’re easy to clean and there’s no naked flames. However, the burners don’t get as hot and they’re slower to cool down.
Induction cooktops are the newest technology in cooktops. They use magnetic fields to heat the pot itself, not the cooktop. The heat is instant and the cooktop itself stays cool, which means they’re safer and also don’t heat the room. They’re very energy efficient and you can refine the temperature easily. Plus, they’re easy to clean. However, as induction cooktops work using the metal of your pans, they don’t work with all cookware.
